Mom, it’s time to be kind to yourself…here’s how

I know you spend so much time taking care of everyone else—your kids, your partner, your work, your home. But when was the last time you truly took a moment to care for you without feeling guilty about it?

Self-compassion is treating yourself with the same kindness, care, and understanding that you so easily give to your children or loved ones. When we practice this, we not only soften our own inner struggles but also model the same kindness for our kids.

So this month, momma, it’s about finding more chances to be kind to yourself.

Here are a few simple ways to practice self-compassion and start prioritizing your own well-being:

1) Replace Self-Criticism With a Smile
When you catch yourself feeling overwhelmed or critical, pause. Place a hand over your heart, take three slow breaths, smile, and gently say: “This is hard, and I’m doing my best right now. I give myself kindness and love despite what’s happening.”

2) Self-Compassion Break
When you notice your own negative self-talk, see how you can replace it with more compassionate and kind self-talk. When challenges arise, ask yourself:

  • What would I say to a dear friend in this situation?
  • How can I offer that same compassion to myself?

3) Embrace Imperfection Together
If things go wrong—dinner burns, a plan falls apart, or emotions run high—laugh, breathe, and let your kids see you forgive yourself. It’s a beautiful way to show them that mistakes are part of being human.

4) Practice Gratitude for Yourself
At the end of each day, write down one thing you’re grateful for about yourself. Whether it’s your patience, your strength, or your ability to juggle everything, recognizing your own qualities helps build a sense of self-compassion.

5) Set Boundaries
It’s okay to say no. Protecting your time and energy is essential for your mental health. Setting boundaries doesn’t make you a bad mom; it makes you a healthier and happier one.

Being a truly present and loving mom includes extending the same love and care to yourself that you give to everyone else around. Not only because you deserve it, but because everyone else in your life will benefit when you’re feeling your best too!

Wishing you moments of kindness and ease this month.
